More about the artist:

Through 4 full length albums and 2 EPs Covenhoven has forged a signature style; layered acoustic arrangements that roll with momentum into orchestral peaks, accompanied by lyrics that contrast hard-won wisdom with the inherent hope of the natural world—from Big Sur to his native Colorado.  His live performances capture the spirit of his recordings—whether it’s conjuring cascading loops in his solo shows or backed by a full band—Covenhoven’s sound fills the breadth of outdoor spaces, auditoriums and club stages.

Bandwagon magazine writes that on IV, Covenhoven reaches “into chamber pop territory, and revealing a wider vocal range…sheltered by a gorgeous, rich string and piano accompaniment, whisks us above the campfire folk…” and the Boulder Daily Camera writes “From well-crafted ballads that ache with bittersweet nostalgia to love songs lush with metaphor, it’s clear Van Horne doesn’t stray from the rawness of letting his feelings guide his art.  Hard truths, glimmers of hope and questions of faith are cradled by guitar strums, piano chords and powerful melodies.”

Regularly touring the United States, Covenhoven has shared the stage with Grammy winners and nominees S.Carey (Bon Iver), Jose Gonzalez, Gregory Alan Isakov, and John Paul White (Civil Wars).  He has also performed with genre bending artists Leif Vollebekk, Lord Huron, Courtney Marie Andrews, Joshua James, Blind Pilot, Esme Patterson, John Craigie, Elephant Revival, Daniel Rodriguez, Rayland Baxter, Shook Twins, Reed Foehl, Rainbow Girls, Joan Shelley and a host of others.

Summer Singer-Songwriter Series With Anneke Dean of Birds of Play

Join Anneke and Telluride Arts for an intimate evening of music at Telluride Arts HQ.

Anneke started playing the violin at the age of 8 where she grew up in Denver, Colorado. From 6th-12th grade, she studied at Denver School of the Arts under the tutelage of the Moscow String Quartet’s first violinist, Eugenia Alikhanova. She holds a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts where she studied with Almita Vamos, MingHuan Xu, and Frank Almond.

While in Chicago, she started exploring other genres including jazz and mariachi. At that point, she continued broadening her genres and taking any available opportunity to play with musicians. Since moving to the Telluride area in 2018, she has worked with numerous local musicians in the area exploring country, bluegrass, jazz, blues, improvisation, classical, and more.

Summer Singer-Songwriter Series With Gabrielle Louise & Ryan Dilts, and Natalie Spears

Gabrielle Louise & Ryan Dilts

Gabrielle Louise & Ryan Dilts are a pairing of sensitivity and force, performing songs that combine Americana and bluegrass traditions. Gabrielle's emotive vocal delivery and honed songwriting is elevated by the nuance and precision of Ryan's agile guitar work. His flatpicking has a crystalline quality that converses with her voice eloquently, subdividing the time to create layered, rhythmic interest that weaves hypnotic spells. While their material harnesses the authenticity of folk music, it is arranged with a sophistication that aims to honor both of their personal heroes: Joni Mitchell and Tony Rice. After graduating Berklee in 2007, Gabrielle crossed the country many times over in a veggie oil-powered tour van, released nine records of original work, and has been entrusted to open for greats from Joan Osborn to the late Guy Clark.

Natalie Spears

Natalie Spears brings listeners in touch with the warmth of community, the quiet awe of wild places, and the intimate corners of humanity. Inspired by her father's English Folk heritage and talents as a Jazz pianist, Natalie carries a deep love for porch picking music and music that swings. Drawing on these roots and pulling from a quiver of instruments (banjo, bass, piano, and guitar), her sound is both nostalgic and contemporary, sassy and sweet, contemplative and playful. In 2021, Natalie’s duo, Lizzy Plotkin & Natalie Spears, released their debut EP, “Just Over the Ridge,” which reached #10 album of the year on the Folk Alliance International Dj Folk Charts and her song, Seasons Change, reached #4 song of the year.
