RE-CLAY-MATION PROJECT -– CLAY CAIRNS

Eunika Roger’s cairn rock structures are built out of clay (made up of eroded organic and inorganic material from remote past); She celebrates their presence and then watches them disintegrate; returning them back to the earth where they came from... only to start the cycle again.

RE-CLAY-MATION PROJECT -– CLAY CAIRNS by EUNIKA ROGERS

Whether one is watching a thunderstorm or looking up at a mighty tree - the experience of nature is one of awe.

And then the process is put into motion … A boulder falls and rolls down the mountain, then bounces onto dirt road before crashing into the river below. A few minutes later, you drive through to where the stone bounced, oblivious to the drama that has just taken place ...

Erosion - The process by which we all are worn away by the action of water, winds, waves and TIME. It is a recurring invisible cycle and we all are part of it.

I use the bi-product of this eroding process in my paintings - I paint with clay. For this project I am using clay to create cairns and track my creative path at this moment in time.

Cairns are stacked rock formations marking paths in remote landscapes. We mark our paths by different means, bringing into question - Where are we going? Are we on the right path? And do we want others to follow? It is a universal question we ask ourselves spiritually, but also as a society; politically, environmentally and intellectually. Cairns purpose is navigational but does one want to be followed or found? In my case I don’t want to leave a trace ...

My cairns rock structures are build out of clay (made up of eroded organic and inorganic material from remote past); I celebrate their presence and then watch them disintegrate; returning it back to the earth where it came from ... only to start the cycle again.

-Eunika Rogers

Jack Plantz

This project is a series of 3D printed hanging lamps inspired by the growth of coral reefs. They are created using an algorithm that mimics some of the goals and constraints that real corals are subject to as they grow. Currently displayed on the stage!

Jack Plantz is an artist and designer based in Telluride Colorado.Jack uses generative design and digital fabrication techniques to create forms inspired by the natural world. By writing algorithms that simulate aspects of natural processes and environments, Jack can allow natural forms to ‘grow’ in a digital environment, leading to complex and organic designs that feel as if they were alive and shaped by evolution. Jack’s work explores how this complexity emerges from simplicity.

This project is a series of 3D printed hanging lamps inspired by the growth of coral reefs. They are created using an algorithm that mimics some of the goals and constraints that real corals are subject to as they grow. The program continuously attempts to maximize the length of a curve while minimizing its overall area footprint. This is analogous to how corals need to maximize their surface area to gather nutrients from the water, while competing for space with other coral. These competing goals result in complex and intricate geometry that feels organic and alive. Each time the program is run, the algorithm finds a new solution to the problem, creating a unique form for each lamp.

HOTTEA Fiber Art

Large-scale fiber arts installation partially funded by a National Endowment for the Arts Grant! This beautiful piece lived at the Transfer Warehouse for the majority of 2021.

TELLURIDE ARTS IS PROUD TO PRESENT HOTTEA AT THE TRANSFER WAREHOUSE

Artist HOTTEA began his work with typography on fences turning an ordinary everyday object into something designers and artists use everyday- the grid.  The foundation behind the work of HOTTEA is to use the existing infrastructure and create an artwork or idea that is in harmony within the given space.  In addition to adapting to the physical qualities of a space or surface- the artist plays close attention to the movement and life in and around the space.  For example - do people stop and socialize within a given area or is it common to continue moving? What other physical objects are around the area?  Is there a river perhaps or maybe a busy street? All of these factors come into play when HOTTEA designs and activates a space or surface.  When experiencing the artist work - you almost feel as if the piece was designed for you because thats exactly who he was thinking of.  When the viewer has a personal connection with a piece of artwork there is a good chance it will become a lasting memory and remind that person of the space.  When artwork is able to create a lasting impression even after the artwork is gone the artwork lives on forever within the subconscious  of the viewer.

Bio

For past installations artist HOTTEA has asked local communities to help contribute to the install in the form of stories, background information and even help with the installation itself.  This is very important to the overall concept because without the substance of local sources the installation can feel uninformed and foreign.  Not only is an artwork within a space a physical experience - but one that triggers personal emotions and memories.  One of the ways that this can be accomplished is by communicating and inviting people to contribute to the installation that frequent this space on a regular basis.  Not only will the community feel that their voice is being heard but feel as if they are being an influence and this idea can be very, very powerful.

HOTTEA is an Emmy award winning artist having worked with clients big and small- from private home installations to entities like Google and  Viacom.  Over the years HOTTEA has been able to balance both corporate commissions while still keeping his roots in street art and graffiti.  By continuing to do un-commissioned work on the streets non-destructively HOTTEA’s commissioned pieces have been given an edge over the rest using similar materials and techniques. By being able to research and install in everyday spaces one would not typically see art installations the artist has gained knowledge of how people interact with art on a broader scale.  Some of the cities and spaces the artist has recently worked in include- the Sydney Opera House, the beach of Barcelo Resort in Mexico, the Artmossphere Biennale in Moscow, Russia, the MADE festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil and NY Fashion Week. His accomplishments range from collaborations with Sesame Street to un-commissioned interventions in Santa Monica California.  HOTTEA is an artist that prides himself in the quality and concept of his artwork both on the street and in a museum.
