Celebrate National Poetry Month with a pop-up poetry project at Telluride Arts Gallery HQ on April 13th from 4-6pm.

San Miguel County Poet Laureate Joanna Spindler created The Poet Is In interactive project for Bluegrass festival 2022: an experiment in connection, presence, and poetry. All are invited to freely drop in, take a few minutes together, and walk away with a personalized, original poem of their own.

Former attendees of The Poet Is In pop-ups have had this to say:
"It's a little like having your palm read or something, but with a poem as a souvenir."
"I didn't expect to feel so seen. I guess I was just curious about having a custom poem written for me, but now I have this whole experience to go along with it."
"Poetry can help express so much about what it is to be human, and this is a really special way to do that."

Joanna says, "This has been a wild experiment for me, because I know that the poems I write- with just a few moments' notice- won't be polished or perfect. Instead The Poet Is In is more about the inspiration I may have with an individual who's coming for a poem, and the unique synergy that happens when two humans connect. It's an invitation to ask a question and let poetry be the mode of origin for whatever comes next."
