This month we feature the brilliant life and spirit of Elaine Fischer. Elaine was a treasured resident of Telluride and San Miguel County, and the longest resident artist at Telluride Arts’ Stronghouse Studios.

A smart, scrappy, deeply talented, visionary, powerful, and inspired woman, Elaine invested deeply in the community, and especially the arts. Among her many accomplishments, Elaine Fischer was a tireless and passionate board member and supporter of Telluride Arts, helping maintain the Stronghouse, establish the Telluride Arts District, and adroitly launching the early effort to restore the Telluride Transfer Warehouse when it was still a dream.

But her main passion was working in her studio where she consistently produced brave, fresh, and powerful work.

Her studio at the Stronghouse, 283 South Fir Street, will be open indefinitely during business hours 12-6pm and we welcome friends to come and pay their respects, and leave a note.

Elaine lived an admirable life and leaves so many gifts behind. Rest in peace dear friend.

A memorial service will take place Thursday, June 2, at the Pavilion in Telluride Town Park, at 2:30 p.m. (attendees can walk, or park on East Colorado, beyond the entrance to the park)
