National Trust for Historic Preservation Awards Telluride Arts
A Preservation Grant for pre development work for the historic Telluride Transfer Warehouse.
Telluride, Colorado April 16, 2015. Today, Telluride Arts was awarded a
$10,000 grant by the National Trust for Historic Preservation from the Peter Grant Fund. These grant funds will be used to complete studies and develop a plan to restore the Telluride Transfer Warehouse and secure it in perpetuity as a community center. The restoration and adaptive re-use of the building will strengthen the Telluride Historic Landmark District and the Telluride Arts District.
"Organizations like Telluride Arts help to ensure that communities and towns all across America retain their unique sense of place," said Stephanie Meeks, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. "We are honored to provide a grant to Telluride Arts which will use the funds to help preserve an important piece of our shared national heritage."
Grants from the National Trust Preservation Funds range from $2,500 to $5,000 and have provided over $15 million since 2003. These matching grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and public agencies across the country to support wide-ranging activities including consultant services for rehabilitating buildings, technical assistance for tourism that promotes historic resources, and the development of materials for education and outreach campaigns.

The Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities (Telluride Arts) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was established on November 17, 1971. The mission is to sustain, promote and expand a culture of the arts within the Telluride Arts District. The organization was the first non-profit in the region, and served to incubate a culture of the arts that has come to define Telluride.
Over the years our mission has remained virtually unchanged. The organization promotes a culture of the arts-- comprised by numerous institutions, artists and events--and their unique concern is to elevate and promote the arts as a whole.
The Telluride Cultural Master Plan provides the roadmap for the work. Current priorities include providing resources for local artists, marketing Telluride as an arts destination, and securing space for the arts.
