John SirJesse’s lifelong passion for nature began in Los Angeles, where he started studying wild edible and medicinal plants in 1972. After moving to Telluride in 1973, his interests expanded to mushrooms, leading to the founding of Herbwalker Tours in 1980 and contributing to the creation of the Telluride Mushroom Festival.

In addition to photography, John is a skilled woodcarver specializing in hand-carved signs, custom pieces, and antique restoration. His artistry can be seen in numerous works around Telluride.
