The First Thursday Art Walk is a festive celebration of the arts in downtown Telluride for art lovers, community and friends. Fifteen venues host receptions from 5pm-8pm to introduce their new exhibitions and artists. A free Art Walk Map offers a self-guided tour that can be used at any time to find galleries that are open most days. Outside the Box Fiber Arts Exhibition
Ah Haa School’s first juried Outside the Box Fiber Arts Exhibition, on display in the Daniel Tucker Gallery at The Depot through April. For the show, artists within San Miguel and Ouray counties were challenged to think outside the box, resulting in a collection of work that is as rich in diversity as it is in creativity. Participants took to heart the jurors’ request for pieces that are less about sewing skills and more about creating unique pieces of art – functional or not – using fiber.

For two decades, Tony Stromberg made his mark as an advertising photographer. However, a quiet but gnawing voice eventually drew Tony out of his commercial roots and deep into the soul of the West. What Tony had gained in reputation, he felt he was losing in his quality of life. In both their physical, as well as their archetypal form, horses help to bring us back to something wild and unrestrained, reminding us of a sense of freedom that many of us have forgotten. Tony’s work is an homage to the equine spirit, and a celebration of their remarkable presence in our lives. Oftentimes referred to as visual poetry, his images truly embrace and reveal the incredible beauty and grace of the horse. Alpina Geneve Avalanche & Pilot Watches
The Elinoff Gallery just received its initial allotment of Alpina Geneve Avalanche & Pilot watches. Alpina has been making watches for sportsmen and adventurers since 1883 and has just re-introduced their brand in the US. Alpina used to be in over 2000 outlets worldwide until the 1970’s when the invention of the quartz watch took its toll on the Swiss watch-making industry. Since then, Frederique-Constant purchased the brand and launched the watches from their original designs from the 1920s and 1930s, designs that were used by the Swiss army and the early, aviation pioneers. The pilot watches come with a model Citation Jet as part of the packaging and the diving watches are packaged in aluminum scuba tanks. Elinoff Gallery was only able to receive 11 pieces until their next production run, and each piece is made in limited supply so stop by and check out one of the coolest watches made in Switzerland, today and available only at a handful of retailers in the US.

Lustre Gallery will host an artist’s reception with Jodi Pinkert from 5 to 8 pm. Jodi resides in Telluride part time and creates a line of Clay Tapestries inspired by her travels to Africa. Her Amulets and Talismans are created with earthen clay and adorned with Bali silver, Berber pendants, Ghana glass, turquoise and other discovered treasures. The textural nature of Jodi’s work echoes the ornaments and symbolic patterns that adorn the African people in jewelry, clothing, paint and scarring. These symbolic references share a wealth of meaning about the wearer. Jodi states “this is the fullness that draws me in - both primitive and advanced, colorful and monochromatic, awash with meaning and purpose.” Jodi’s Clay Tapestries are intended to be mounted on the wall or as standing totems. Unraveling: the You Are Here
Brittany A. Miller presents a new body of work that is part of the artists’ ongoing ‘You Are Here’ collection. The mannequin, representing anyone and everyone, continues as the artists’ stalwart muse. The mixed media works encompass a depth of metaphor and symbolism reflecting matters of the heart and authenticity.
The works are a mixture of mixed media pieces, many made with reclaimed and found materials, such as reclaimed cabinet doors and scrap wood. Aesthetically, these creations have an illustrative quality mixing with the rawness of the weathered, tarnished wood and other materials offering an alluring effect.

Recology by Daniel Aragon
Telluride Arts presents Recology, a new body of work by local artist Daniel Aragon, a Telluride Arts Small Grants recipient. The exhibit explores the mutual benefits of relationship in the natural world, and the interconnections that regulate success. The exhibit is inspired by Biophilia, a theory that humanity has an innate love for the natural world and its’ diversity, clean air and water, natural materials, organic shapes, and cycles. It also proposes that the human desires to explore, tinker, modify, create, and progress are innate. It illuminates the tension between human curiosity and the systems that support all life. Daniel Aragon’s new paintings created for this exhibit illustrate natural, regenerative processes. While the paintings are based on real world projects and technology, they also illustrate the artist’s dream of vital, diverse natural systems. The exhibit is presented in collaboration with telluride Eco Action Partners.

The Wilkinson Public Library

Telluride Arts and the Wilkinson Public Library collaborate to showcase regional artists work on the walls of the library. There are five main exhibit spaces in the library that host revolving exhibits that change monthly. Exhibits can be found in the following spaces this month: 1.) Clea Arthur above the music area behind the desk on the main floor, 2.) Youth Art Projects in the youth room, 3.) Ally Crilly, Paintings in the stairwell, 4.) Molly Redecki, Paintings on the exterior walls surrounding the stacks on the second floor and 5.) Joe Skalsky, Photographs in the Palmyra Room.
